Provincial Grand Master of Sussex Welcome to the website of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Sussex. We opened our first website back in 1997 and have now decided to replace it with a more up-to-date version. I hope you like our 'new look'. Freemasonry is an international Fraternity and I am therefore delighted that, through the world wide web, we are able to showcase Sussex Freemasonry to the entire world. In recent years, Freemasonry has become far more open and our members are actively encouraged to talk openly about their membership and about our aims and objectives. I hope this website helps to continue that trend because I am aware that, in the past, many people had strange misunderstandings of Freemasonry and our role in society. This site will tell you about Freemasonry in general, and Freemasonry in Sussex in particular. It explains what a candidate needs to know before joining a Lodge, where our Lodges meet, and the names of the senior members in Sussex. It also gives a greater insight into our charitable giving. Many members of the public are very surprised to learn how much of the money we raise is donated to non-Masonic charities and good causes, and we do not solicit funds from non-Masons. You can also read about 'Sussex 4 Sussex' which is a recent initiative whereby Sussex Freemasons are supporting charities within Sussex. Our members have so far donated over one million pounds from their own pockets, and I am very proud that their generosity has enabled many local charities to continue their much needed work. If you are not a Freemason and would like to learn more about our wonderful family and how to become a member, our Provincial Grand Secretary or our Provincial Information Officer can be contacted through this website and would be very happy to send you more details. We will also be publishing a diary of events. Most of these are for our members, but will also include open days at which you are more than welcome to visit us at our many centres throughout Sussex. We look forward to meeting you. Kenneth E. Thomas Provincial Grand Master
