Sussex Freemasons are very proud of having raised £4,104,896.51 for The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution, which was presented to the RMBI President at a Gala Dinner at the Brighton Centre on April 15th 2004. The amount raised represented 164.2% of the original target set back in June 1998 by our then Provincial Grand Master, Ian H. Lay.

The photograph below shows (from left to right): Ian H. Lay, Don Durrant (Chairman of the Appeal Committee), and Brian Smith (at that time, President of the RMBI).

Sussex Freemasons raise over £4m for the RMBI

Within English Freemasonry there are four main Masonic Charities:

  • The Grand Charity
  • The Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys
  • The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution
  • The Masonic Samaritan Fund

Our next appeal, or 'Festival' as it is called in Freemasonry, will be for The Grand Charity in 2017.

In the meantime, Sussex Freemasons are not resting on their laurels and are supporting 'Sussex 4 Sussex', which is an appeal to raise much needed funds for charities and good causes throughout Sussex, and have already donated £1,904,802. See our Sussex 4 Sussex page for more information.

It should also be noted that we do not ask the public to support these appeals and all the money donated comes directly from our members.
